Tango for Musicians
So many musicians have expressed a love of tango music and a curiosity
about how the dance actually works that we have a class for complete
beginners who are musicians.
Musicians have an advantage because they listen (as a matter of course)
to rhythm, phrasing and dynamics, so an introduction specially for
musicians seemed a good idea.
What will happen?
We will play some example s of traditional tangos from the early 20th
century to the 1940s, and see how they became more sophisticated. We
will also listen to some more contemporary Tango Nuevo (Piazzolla) and
21st century tango (Gotan Project) to show how the essence of tango is
alive and developing. We will also introduce the basic principles of the
dance - the concepts of leading and following - so that you can begin to
dance.
At the end of the class there will be a demonstration of what your
dancing could develop into.

Your Questions....
I don't want to dance but can
I come anyway?
Yes!
I've never danced in my
life... will it be hard?
No. If you
can walk you can tango. The pleasure of tango is all to do with responding
to the music, however simply. And the music is fantastic.
Do I have to wear agonising
shoes?
No no no!
Wear comfortable, well-fitting shoes that will not fall off. Leather soles
are easier than crepe or rubber - try them out on a wooden floor, can you
do the twist? Ladies you don't have to wear heels and something with a
strap is a good idea. |
